Avada Roadmap: September Progress Update

Autumn is around the corner! In this latest roadmap installment, we will share Avada 8.0 progress and the latest Avada milestones with the broader community.

Following on from the August Roadmap post, our team has been hard at work developing a new approach to Avada Layouts. See some of the details below.

With Avada 8, you will have unrestricted control to build the entire layout within Avada. Prior to version 8, Avada Layouts were controlled by a combination of global and page options, such as boxed layout, content background, content padding, etc.

Going forward, in Avada 8, you will instead have the whole layout within the builder, offering a more consistent building approach. Options are directly related to the content you want to change, allowing for new, more complex layout designs.

We will deprecate support for the old and outdated PHP templates to allow for the updated layout approach in Avada 8, which offers the additional flexibility outlined above. What does that mean for users updating? Please see below.

If you are already using Avada Layouts, you will be fine. We will automatically upgrade your layouts to the new system; you don’t have to do anything.

If you are using the old PHP templates for various areas like pages, posts, etc., then Avada 8 will offer some tools to help you update to the new layout system. However, using the deprecated PHP templates will not be supported anymore. This also means that if you use customized PHP templates in a child theme, you will need to manually migrate these layouts to the new layout setup.

We understand that this might be a bigger change for some of our customers, but it is a necessary step to increase performance, add more flexibility, and align with what WordPress is doing in general (e.g., WP native templates and WooCommerce templates have been migrated to block layouts).
