Creating Portfolio Posts

Before you can display your Portfolio items on a page, you first need to create them. The Portfolio Single Posts Pages documentation goes into extensive detail on the possibilities of the single post page, but here is a short overview of the Portfolio Post creation process.

How To Create A Portfolio Post

  • Step 1​​​​​​ – Navigate to the Portfolio tab in your WordPress admin.

  • Step 2​​​​​​​​ – Click on the Add New button to create a post. Insert a title, then insert any post content in the editing field. You can use any editor you wish here. For the standard WordPress and Back-end Avada Builder, the Portfolio options will be on the right hand side of the page. In Avada Live, you will find them on the Portolio tab, in the Page Options.

  • Step 3​​​​​​​ – Add and assign Categories on the right side of the post. You can add Categories on the fly by clicking the + Add New Category link at the bottom of the Portfolio Categories section, or you can navigate to Portfolio < Portfolio Categories to set up your Categories independently. To assign Categories, check the box next to the Category name. These Categories are the filters that show above your portfolio items when displaying your Portfolio items with the Portfolio Element. They allow you to filter different types of projects.

  • Step 4​​​​​​​ – Add and assign any associated Skills on the right side of the post. You can add Skills on the fly by clicking the + Add New Skill link at the bottom of the Skills section, or you can navigate to Portfolio < Skills to set up your Skills independently. To assign skills to the post, check the box next to the Skill.

  • Step 5​​​​​​​ – Add Tags on the right side of the post. Type the name of the tag in the field and hit enter or enter multiple tags by separating tags with commas. The Tags are the same as the tags you find in blog posts, but these tags will only show up on Portfolio items. The Categories, Skills, and Tags that are added to the individual portfolio posts are also used as a way of filtering content in the Portfolio Archive pages.   • Step 6​​​​​​​ – Add a featured image, or images, to the post. To do this, click the first Featured Image Box, select an image and click ‘Set Featured Image’.

  • Step 7​​​​​​​ – For a slideshow, insert more than one Featured Image and each image will be a slide in the slideshow. Five featured image boxes show by default. At the very bottom, there is a link to the Global Option that controls how many featured images you can add.

  • Step 8​​​​​​​ – For a video post, paste the iFrame embed from either Youtube or Vimeo into the Video Embed Code field, found in the Portfolio tab of the Avada Page Options.

  • Step 9​​​​​​ – Select any number of other options for the portfolio post in the Portfolio tab of the Avada Page Options. Just note, that about half of these options will not be available once a Layout has been applied to Portfolios.

  • Step 10​​​​​​​ – Once you are finished, click Publish to save the post.
