What are the most common hearing instrument styles?

Generally, there are 4 basic styles of hearing instruments: Behind the Ear (BTE), In the Ear (ITE), In the Canal (ITC) and Completely In the Canal (CIC). Of these basic styles, there are additional variations.

However, due to recent technological advances in Hearing Science, 2 additional styles of hearing instrument have evolved, Open Ear and RITE (receiver in the ear). Both of these new technologies have proven to be major advances in quality of sound and satisfaction for patients.
